History of The Windsor Belle

Built-in 1901 during Edwardian times, she is propelled by a triple-expansion steam engine. This makes her both highly efficient (for steam) and very quiet. In 1950 she was converted to motor drive, but later restored to steam power in 1986.

Few steam river launches have been completely restored to their original purpose. The Windsor Belle, with its beautifully varnished timber, shining brassware, and well-crafted fabrics and furnishings offers a unique experience for private charter on the River Thames.

layout, decks & interior

The Windsor Belle has three decks, each with its own style and character. The forward deck is quite unique for the Thames as it is covered and can be partially open-sided or enclosed depending on the conditions. Even on the coolest of days, the varnished panelling protects from a breeze, making this a popular spot for intimate dining.

Moving inside, the saloon is opulently appointed and creates a dining space and entertaining space unrivalled for elegance and charm on the river. From the saloon, you can also access the period-style heads (toilets) .

The upper deck is well positioned for taking in rowing at Henley Regatta, listening to the sound of famous artists at Henley Festival or for enjoying a drink under the night sky; our favourite spot on a summer evening with a glass of English sparkling watching the sun go down.
